A yearly overview of the clues of upcoming titles provided by Criterion and Jason Polan in the monthly newsletter. Proudly pun-ful, characteristically corny, and always awaited with bated breath.
The year two thousand and twelve offers us another dozen fantastical clues from the ink pen of one Jason Polan. As always, a strong mixture of great, good, and painful puns meet our desire to know what will come up in the ensuing months of the year and a little after. Gardens multiply and switch from Grey to Blu. Branded, non-orange basketballs portend one specific disc and another as a bonus. Umberto D. gets easier to see. Anthropomorphic seasoning warns of weirder things to come. The tide brings in three versions of the waterfront. Violent desserts beat U2 to the table. Fiddling angels on wheels get their critical reappraisal. A trio of non-wacky Cs finally get caught. Bad lambs makes for a sad clue for a great movie. The Little Tramp hides behind a blu beard for a vastly underrated gem. Various Arthur Fonzarellis grace my favorite clue ever for a film that matches that praise. And finally, the most generic of clues pops out of the trunk and refuses to be repo’d, man.
